First Names in Brazil: Examples and Proper Context for the Data

If Brazil is part of your family's daily life, a regional preselection can be helpful. It shows you names from a matching dataset. You can then review origin, pronunciation, and personal meaning separately for each favorite.

What Time Period and Which People Were Recorded?

The Brazilian preselection in HeyName uses a birth cohort from IBGE's 2022 Census (Censo 2022): the birth years 2020 to 2022 grouped together in the dataset. It is therefore not an annual birth ranking for 2025 or 2026.

A census and ongoing statistics of newly registered first names answer different questions. Before concluding current popularity from a ranking, consider the survey year, birth cohort, and geographic reference.

Record Your Desired Spelling Separately

In the source used, names appear without accents. Seeing Joao in the data list does not mean you should choose that exact spelling. Explicitly write down your desired form, such as João, and treat it as your own spelling decision.

A missing accent in a statistical dataset is not a recommendation for everyday life. For your favorite names, check how they are pronounced in your family and write down the complete combination with the intended last name.

Regional Use Is Not an Indication of Origin

A name included in a Brazilian selection did not necessarily originate in Brazil. The list reflects a data reference; linguistic origin belongs in an individual name entry.

In HeyName, you will find the name region at the top of the filters. With the international selection, you can broaden your search again. Favorites you have already saved remain intact when switching.

Common questions

Are these the current top 1,000 names given to babies in Brazil?

No. The preselection used is based on a birth cohort from the 2022 Census and is labeled accordingly.

Why are accents missing in some source spellings?

We adopt the spelling from the dataset used. You should verify and record your desired spelling independently.
